Understanding Your Risk for Heart Disease
It is a calculation of your risk of having a cardiovascular problem, such as a heart attack or stroke in the in the next 10 years.
10-year risk for ASCVD is categorized as:
- Low-risk (<5%)
- Borderline risk (5% to 7.4%)
- Intermediate risk (7.5% to 19.9%)
- High risk (≥20%)
- This calculator assumes that you have not had a prior heart attack or stroke. If you have, it is recommended that you discuss with your doctor about medications and potential cardiac risks.
What is ASCVD?
ASCVD stands for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, defined as a nonfatal myocardial infarction (heart attack), coronary heart disease death, or stroke.
