Understanding Your Risk for Heart Disease

It is a calculation of your risk of having a cardiovascular problem, such as a heart attack or stroke in the in the next 10 years.

10-year risk for ASCVD is categorized as:

  • Low-risk (<5%)
  • Borderline risk (5% to 7.4%)
  • Intermediate risk (7.5% to 19.9%)
  • High risk (≥20%)

  • What is ASCVD?

    ASCVD stands for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, defined as a nonfatal myocardial infarction (heart attack), coronary heart disease death, or stroke.

    Notes

  • This calculator assumes that you have not had a prior heart attack or stroke. If you have, it is recommended that you discuss with your doctor about medications and potential cardiac risks.
